Mold on top of wine vinegar?

Brazil vinegar am 15.11.2022 17:43:27 | Region: Brazil

I made a batch of raisin vinegar in this container, it turned out really well, no mold or whatever.

When I bottled it, I used the same container to ferment some red wine to make vinegar. Put the wine and some water to reduce de alcohol percentage plus a little of a Apple cider vinegar I made before to jump-start the fermentation and, after just a few days on top of my fridge (very hot weather these days) this layer grew on top of it, I posted a picture.

I'm pretty sure it's mold, but would like to confirm.

If it is, I should throw it out and start again, right?

I made apple cider and raisin vinegar a few times without problems but it's the second time I try to make red wine vinegar and get mold... Any ideas how to not have this happen?

Thanks.

- Yes, this is definitely mold, a very beautiful, impressive example.

- Yes, start again, since it's just a small batch, you shouldn't spend any additional time with this one.

- As you have shown the second time already, this issue depends on the type of medium (alcohol) you're trying to ferment. Maybe, again maybe (!), it helps if you pasteurize the red wine first, before starting again.
